High school and middle school choir students come together for choral workshop

Two-hundred-plus choir students from across the district came together at Walled Lake Northern for a morning full of learning new techniques and fine-tuning their vocal skills.

High school and middle school altos and sopranos had the opportunity to work with esteemed Oakland University professor Cat Bennett. The two-hour workshop included learning two brand new songs, breakout sessions by voice type, and they concluded with a group performance of songs the students learned at the end.

“It’s fun to see the beginning to the end, where we learning (two songs) in just a short period of time,” said Walled Lake Northern freshman Lily Monacelli.

“Learning the music within two hours is always a little bit nerve-racking, but the teaching methods that we use I think is extremely beneficial,” said Walled Lake Northern senior Kate Kasparian. “It’s really awesome because it is something that people are really passionate about, and getting to work on that passion with everybody else is just a wonderful opportunity.”
